The affordable smartphone was initially scheduled to be launched on September 10 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Jio and Google said the companies have made “considerable progress” towards launching the smartphone.

“Both companies have begun testing JioPhone Next Diwali offers with a limited set of users for further refinement and is actively working to make it available more widely in time for the jio next Diwali festive season. This additional time will also help mitigate the current industry-wide, global semiconductor shortages,” Jio and Google said in a joint statement.

JioPhone Next will be powered by an optimizes version of Android OS, and include features such as Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud, and language translation for any on-screen text, a smart camera with India-centric filters. the phone is launching around 3k.

Users will also be able to check the latest cricket scores and weather updates,  ask Google Assistant to play music on Jio Saavn or check their balance on My Jio.

The price of the 4G smartphone has not yet been revealed.

At the Reliance Industries AGM on June 24, Chairman Mukesh Ambani had  said JioPhone Next will be the “most affordable smartphone globally.”

some experts are expected some offers from jio and customers will get phone around 500 rs with offers.

The company said the offer is aimed to woo 350 million phone users in India who are still on the 2G network. The company will look to come closer to its 500 million subscriber target through the offer.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, said: “Jio will ensure that no Indian is deprived of affordable Internet and the fruits of the Digital Revolution. By offering the ‘JioPhone Diwali Gift’, we are making an investment of Rs 1,500 towards bringing every new person from the Bottom of the Economic Pyramid into the Internet Economy.”

The company has announced the offer at a time when the JioPhone’s sales are on the decline. According to Counterpoint Research released last month, the share of JioPhone in the feature phone market had shrunk from 47 percent in the second quarter of 2018 to 28 percent a year after.
